Rospotrebnadzor warned of an earlier season of tick activity
The season of tick activity in 2025 may begin in some regions of Russia earlier than usual, Rospotrebnadzor warned on January 23.
"In the low-snow warm winter of 2014, positive daytime temperatures were constantly recorded as early as February 12, and due to early warming, the season of tick sucking began not in the second half of April, as usual, but in mid-March, that is, a month earlier. This may happen again this year", - stated in the Telegram-channel of the Department.
It is specified that the situation will differ for different regions due to the diversity of natural conditions.
As a precautionary measure, Rospotrebnadzor specialists recommended choosing clothes for being outdoors, in forests and parks, which should not allow ticks to crawl, specified "Gazeta.Ru". It is also recommended to treat clothing and open areas of the body with repellents.
In September 2024, immunologist Mikhail Bolkov told Izvestia that tick-borne encephalitis endemic to the Far East and Siberia began to spread to the west of Russia and even to the countries of Western Europe. The reasons were warming, deforestation and the emergence of new tourist destinations.
GP Philip Kuzmenko noted last July that the tick is the only insect in Russia that poses a threat to people because of the possibility of getting encephalitis or Lyme disease after a bite. He reminded that to protect yourself, you should take the insect in a jar to an infectious disease department and get vaccinated.
