A member of the Russian State Duma from Sevastopol and a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Dmitriy Belik, on 23 January called the statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term of office expired in May 2024) about the non-recognition of Russia's new regions delusional.

Belik noted that the Russian Federation does not need "recognitions" of its territories.

"He (Zelensky. - Ed.) is not the figure to influence events, and continues to stubbornly deny the existing reality, including territorial," - said the MP to the agency "RIA Novosti".

According to him, even after the end of the special operation, it will not be possible to establish relations with Ukraine soon.

"Often, as the history of mankind shows, pragmatists come to power after a fanatic, and here you can talk to them," Belik said.

As specified "Gazeta.Ru", the day before Zelensky said that the Ukrainian side will not agree to a compromise with the recognition of the new regions of Russia. He stressed that the Ukrainian authorities would not recognize them in a legal context.

Earlier, on January 21, Zelensky told journalists at the World Economic Forum that if Kiev is not admitted to NATO, European countries will have to finance the maintenance of the Ukrainian army, the number of which is planned to be increased to 1 million people. He added that Ukraine's accession to NATO would be cheaper for the EU than maintaining the army.
