Trump reacted to Biden's refusal to pardon himself
US President Donald Trump expressed regret because the former leader of the country Joe Biden did not issue an executive order to pardon himself before leaving office. Trump said in an interview with Fox News Channel on January 22.
"You know, a funny thing, maybe unfortunate - he did not pardon himself," said the President of the United States.
In addition, the head of the White House noted that if you look at the situation as a whole, everything is connected exactly with Biden. What relationship he meant, Trump did not specify.
Earlier, on January 20, Biden preventively pardoned a number of members of his family, calling the investigations against them "unfounded and politically motivated". According to the former White House chief of staff, his family had been attacked and threatened, which were aimed at causing him pain. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the situation with the pre-emptive pardon a self-defamatory act.
Before that, on January 17, Biden commuted the sentences of nearly 2,500 people convicted of non-violent crimes. He granted clemency to those citizens who received lengthy sentences, as well as those whose sentences were based on outdated rules regarding crimes involving illegal substances.
Prior to that, on January 11, Biden said he may preemptively pardon some individuals who have previously criticized U.S. leader-elect Donald Trump before he leaves the White House.
On December 2, 2024, Biden decided to pardon his son in honor of Thanksgiving. Reacting to this, Hunter Biden stated that he intends to dedicate his life to helping people with addictions. In September, Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to nine felony counts of failing to pay taxes, and in June, he pleaded guilty to three felony counts of gun possession.
