Experts told of thousands of complaints about unauthorized dumping sites

Residents of all regions complain about illegal and unauthorized dumps; the Presidential Direct Line alone received about 1,500 such appeals in 2024, the People's Front (PF) told Izvestia.

Among the objects complained about by residents are garbage heaps on the banks of rivers, in forests, on the streets of settlements, as well as on private territories. There are also objects that have been cleaned more than once by the authorities and volunteers, and then there was again a dump, the NF added.

For example, in the village of Baturinsky Emangelinsky district of Chelyabinsk region back in 2023, activists demanded to close access to an unauthorized dump of several dozen hectares, where there were piles of household waste, boards, tires. The situation was taken under control by the governor of the Chelyabinsk region. However, in January this year, activists noticed that the entrances to the illegal dump were still not blocked, and waste dumping continued.

The State Duma at the plenary session on Wednesday, January 22, adopted in the first reading of the bill regulating what level of government will be responsible for the elimination of dumps.
