Russian embassy calls for resumption of negotiation process in Colombia
Against the backdrop of the escalating confrontation between rebel groups in northern Colombia, the Russian Federation advocates an end to the bloodshed and the resumption of the peace process. This was stated to Izvestia by the Russian Embassy in Bogota.
"Against the background of the current situation, we note a serious setback in the progress achieved earlier and, of course, call on the parties to the conflict to stop the bloodshed and resume the negotiation process. Despite the developments, our approach remains unchanged: a peaceful settlement should be based on the provisions of the final peace agreement in their entirety," the diplomatic mission said.
Last week, clashes began in the Catatumbo region between fighters of the "Army of National Liberation" (ELN) and formations of former members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). So far, about 100 people have been killed and almost 32,000 more have been displaced.
