The proportion of patients with respiratory infections has increased in hospitals
The incidence of influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections has increased, according to data from the Smorodintsev Research Institute of Influenza. Also during the week in Russia, the number of hospitalizations with acute respiratory viral infections in 27 regions increased by 30% or more, according to the report of Rospotrebnadzor.
The reason for the increase in the number of hospitalizations could be the mutation of swine flu, believes the chief freelance children's allergologist-immunologist of the Ministry of Health of the Moscow region Andrei Prodeus.
"The fact of mutation of the virus first of all negatively affects people with weakened immunity and those who have not been vaccinated in time. This leads to their hospitalization and deaths," he stressed.
Thus, since the beginning of 2025, patients have already died from swine flu in two regions, Izvestia found out. Lethal outcomes were registered in the Transbaikal Territory and Voronezh region.
Valentina Baidina, a therapist at SM-Klinika in St. Petersburg, added that alcohol abuse, overeating, lack of physical activity during New Year vacations, weather variability, as well as lack of vitamins and solar activity may lead to weakening of immunity. According to her, children, the elderly, people with chronic diseases, especially if they have not been immunized, have the highest risk of getting to the hospital with acute respiratory viral infections and fatal outcome.
Valentina Baidina noted that to prevent severe course and fatal outcome of influenza allow timely application for medical care.
