Near the Greek city of Thessaloniki in a garbage bag found a marble statue of a woman, the age of which is more than 2 thousand years. About it on Wednesday, January 22, reports the edition CNN.
According to the police, a local resident found an 80-centimeter statue next to a garbage can. The man handed it over to local authorities, who contacted archaeologists to assess its significance.
Experts have determined that the figure belongs to the Hellenistic era - the period between about 320 and 30 years B.C. The artifact is planned to be transferred to the local antiquities department for preservation and study.
Earlier, on December 27, in Britain in the Saxon cemetery discovered a sword of VI century. The weapon is in an excellent state of preservation, archaeologists compare it to a sword found in Sutton Hoo, an Anglo-Saxon burial site in Suffolk County.
