The death toll from flooding and landslides in Indonesia has risen to 21 people. The Associated Press (AP) reported on January 22.

"Indonesian rescuers have retrieved four more bodies <...> bringing the death toll to 21 people," the agency informed.

It is specified that the waters of the overflowing rivers flooded nine villages in Pekalongan district of Central Java province, while landslides hit mountain villages after heavy rains.

National Disaster Management Agency spokesman Abdul Muhari said the flooding caused a landslide that destroyed two houses and a cafe in Petungkriyono resort area.

He added that the disasters destroyed a total of 25 houses, a dam and three main bridges connecting villages in Pekalongan. At least 13 people were injured and about 300 people were forced to flee to temporary government shelters.

Earlier on Jan. 6, severe floods hit the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. The streets of the city were flooded as a result of heavy rains. Several cars and even a tourist bus were abandoned right in the middle of the road due to the sudden rush of water.
