The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has requested information from federal retail chains on the limitation of markups, the antimonopoly body said on January 22.

"The service monitors retailers' compliance with their voluntary commitments on certain positions of socially important food products. We are talking about retail chains, to which the FAS of Russia has previously sent recommendations on the need to take such obligations. These are networks of the group of companies "X5", "Magnit", "Dixie", "Auchan", "O'Key", "Lenta", "Metro", "Zelgros", "Globus", "Maria Ra" and "Azbuka Vkusa", - explained in the FAS.

Retailers will provide lists of commodity items, for which they are currently complying with the obligation to limit markups, and information about the volume of sales of these items and all socially important essential food products. In addition, the Service requested data on the number of regions in which voluntary commitments are in force, the limit on markups, the timing and method of informing consumers, etc.

FAS Russia supports the responsible behavior of retail chains. According to the agency's information, limiting markups on socially important products for many years already allows to restrain prices for certain items of popular goods and increase their availability to citizens.

January 15, it was reported that the FAS will study the data on the cost of a number of packages for food products. The service requested information on the production and sale of products, production costs, as well as detailed explanations regarding pricing. The agency will analyze the information received and assess the impact of the cost of packaging on the cost of products for the end consumer.
