Zakharova assessed Trump's ban on displaying LGBT flags on US missions
U.S. President Donald Trump's ban on displaying flags other than the national flag, including symbols of sexual minorities (the LGBT movement is recognized as extremist in Russia), on U. S. missions has left Europe "alone with the problems created for them". This statement was made by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on January 22.
"Now only the embassies of the European Union (EU) countries are left under these banners, which (I change the necessary verb to a decent one) have once again been left alone with the problems created for them after being used," she wrote in her Telegram channel.
Zakharova recalled that a few days ago, Washington imposed restrictions on countries that prohibited American missions from displaying flags of the LGBT movement.
The U.S. State Department introduced the "One Flag Policy" on Monday, January 20. According to the decree, American institutions at home and abroad can only display the national flag on the building. Thus, Trump established a ban on hanging symbols of LGBT and other movements and minorities.
In his inauguration speech on January 20, Trump said that now the official US policy implies recognition of only two genders - male and female.
