Kirovo-Chepetsk district court of Kirov region did not satisfy the petition to commute the rest of the sentence of the former Minister of Defense of the Donetsk People's Republic Igor Strelkov (Girkin). This was reported on January 22 in the press service of the instance.

"The court refused to satisfy the lawyer's petition to replace the convict of the unexecuted part of the sentence with a milder type of punishment," - noted on the court's website.

The ex-head of the Defense Ministry of the DNR was detained in Moscow on July 21, 2023. January 25, 2024 Moscow City Court sentenced him to four years in a general regime colony under part 2 of article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public calls to carry out extremist activities") because of posts in Telegram-channel with agitation for illegal activities.

On May 29, the First Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction recognized the verdict as lawful. The session was held in closed format, Strelkov personally participated in the hearing. Later, on July 18, it became known that he was transferred to the penal colony-5 in Kirovo-Chepetsk, designed for former law enforcement officers.
