Media reported about the shelling of the UOC cathedral in Ternopil
The cathedral of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in Ternopil was shelled with small arms fire. This was reported by the Pervyi Kazatskyy TV channel on January 22.
It is specified that the report about the shooting was received by the police on January 21. Law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene and found a characteristic bullet hole in the window of the "house of God". No one was injured as a result of the incident.
"Law enforcers said that they are conducting an investigation," - indicated in the Telegram-channel.
Representatives of the temple claim that the firing on the cathedral is a persecution carried out by the authorities and activists against Orthodox Christians. They specified that the attack was carried out from January 18 to 21, when the temple was not working.
Earlier, on December 18, 2024, representatives of the schismatic structure "Orthodox Church of Ukraine" (PCU) seized the Holy Trinity Church of the canonical UOC in the Kiev region. This event is "symbolic" because of the memorial day of St. Nicholas of Myra, the Wonderworker, which the faithful celebrated on Thursday, December 19.
Kiev's persecution of the canonical UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate began back in 2022: criminal cases were brought against clergy and monks, they were expelled from churches, which were seized by unknown people in military uniforms and supporters of the PCU. Temples, churches and even the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra were subjected to searches. Believers tried to defend the temples, the seizure of which was almost always accompanied by violence, and went out to rallies.
In September 2024, a law officially came into force in Ukraine banning the activities of the UOCU on the territory of the country.
