US President Donald Trump by his decisions causes discontent of some members of the Republican Party. This was reported on January 22 by the publication Semafor.

According to him, it is about pardoning the participants of the storming of the Capitol in 2021, which killed five people, including a police officer, as well as the renaming of a mountain in Alaska against the opinion of two senators.

According to some Republicans, there is a difference between those who have been nonviolent and those who have attacked police officers and rioted.

"You can't turn a blind eye to brutality. Especially police brutality," the publication quotes Senator Mitch McConnell as saying.

In addition, another cause for concern for the Republican Party is Trump's plans to impose duties of 25% on imports for allies from Canada and Mexico. According to speculation, such a measure could cause serious damage to US agriculture and manufacturing.

On the eve of Trump after the inauguration signed an executive order on pardoning 1.5 thousand participants in the event.

On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters stormed the building of Congress to prevent the approval of the results of the November 2020 election of the head of state, which was won by the candidate from the Democrats Joe Biden. The riots left five people dead, including a police officer.

Subsequently, the Federal Bureau of Investigation opened more than 160 criminal cases. In turn, acting D.C. District Attorney Michael Sherwin admitted that the number of open cases could reach several hundred.

Back in December 2024, Trump promised that after inauguration he would first deal with the process of pardoning most of the participants in the storming of the Capitol.
