January 2025 in Moscow may become the second warmest January in the history of meteorological observations. This was announced on Wednesday, January 22, by Roman Vilfand, scientific head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center.

"So far January 2020 was the "hottest" and the average monthly temperature was exactly 0 degrees Celsius, that's such a warm month, now we are in second place so far," TASS quoted him as saying.

Vilfand noted that until the end of the month the temperature will be a degree above normal and significant cooling is not expected.

On January 20, leading specialist of the information agency Meteonovosti Tatyana Pozdnyakova told Izvestia that the capital region will be in the zone of increased atmospheric pressure for almost the whole week. According to her, such weather with a large positive anomaly of air temperature and small precipitation in mixed phase is likely to persist until the end of January.
