AvtoVAZ presented racing Lada Iskra
AvtoVAZ announced the premiere of the racing version of the new Lada Iskra model. It will be held in the Samara region on January 25 as part of the 27th "Race of Champions". This is stated in the company's message, which was received by Izvestia on Wednesday, January 22.
The sports Lada Iskra was built by the factory team Lada Sport Rosneft. The car is specially prepared for participation in ice races. The Iskra body is lightened and equipped with a welded safety cage. Special shock absorbers, stiffer springs are installed in the suspension, and spherical joints, rather than silent blocks, are used in the shock absorber supports and suspension arms. Mounting points of suspension units have been reinforced.
The largest number of modifications was made to the powertrain. The engine volume has been increased from 1.6 liters to 1.8 liters due to the use of the original crankshaft, which increases the stroke of the piston. Both the crankshaft and connecting rods have been strengthened. The intake and exhaust system, as well as the engine controller were modernized. This allowed to get a power of 173 hp and torque of 200 Nm.
The company noted that 150 Nm is achieved at 2500 rpm, which makes the car not only fast, but also tractive, and this markedly distinguishes it from previous generations of Lada cars prepared for ice racing. The transmission uses a sequential gearshift mechanism, self-locking inter-wheel differential and drives made of high-strength steel.
At the front there are standard brakes from Lada Iskra, and at the rear - from Vesta. Hydraulic handbrake and brake force regulating system are also used. The car's electrical equipment has been modernized, in particular, a multifunctional electronics control panel has been mounted on the steering column.
January 15, at a press conference in Moscow, AvtoVAZ presented a sedan Lada Iskra. The start of production of the novelty is scheduled for the first half of 2025. Iskra in the model range of the brand will occupy a niche between affordable Granta and more expensive Vesta.
Also on January 15, it was reported that AvtoVAZ has planned 15 major product events for 2025, including the launch of completely new models and updates to existing ones. One of the major novelties will be the debut of a new Lada Iskra model, which will sit between the more affordable Granta and the flagship Vesta in the brand's lineup.
