Residents of the city of Narva in Estonia have decided to go on a protest action because of rising prices for heat supply. This was reported by local publication ERR on January 22.

It noted that the last time the price for heating was raised in December, almost one and a half times.

"The heating bill <...> has increased by about €100 compared to last year. People are angry and are demanding a reduction in heating prices," ERR writes.

About 3.5 thousand people have signed the relevant petition and are going to attend the protest action. According to the publication, the demonstration will be held on February 1 at Stockholm Square.

Earlier in the day it was reported that gas reserves in the storages of Latvia, Hungary and the Czech Republic fell below 60% against the background of the termination of Russian gas supplies to Europe through Ukraine.

Prior to that, on January 10, gas reserves in UK storage facilities dropped to a low level. It was specified that the British storages are 26% below last year's reserves. They remain about half full.

From January 1, 2025 Gazprom stopped fuel supplies to Europe via Ukraine. The company said that this happened due to the repeated and explicit refusal of the Ukrainian side to extend these agreements.

Back in August last year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term expired in May 2024) said that Kiev would not extend the gas transit agreement with Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed out that Moscow was not giving up gas supplies through Ukrainian territory.
