New cases of petroleum product discharges were detected on the Black Sea coastline

The Krasnodar Region, Crimea and Sevastopol have detected new emissions of oil products after a tanker crash in the Kerch Strait. This was reported by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia on January 22.

"Over the past 24 hours the bottom and the pier near the village of Vityazevo have been surveyed. Underwater work found localized areas with pollution," - stated in the Telegram-channel of the Department.

Also were recorded emissions of fuel oil along 8.5 km of the coastline of the Azov Sea in the area of Kuchugura. At present, work on the collection of pollutants is completed, specified in the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.

In addition, in Sevastopol, a survey of 165 km of coastline between the settlements of Laspi and Andreevka is being conducted. Specialists removed more than 244 tons of contaminated sand and soil.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia emphasized that more than 5 thousand people and more than 670 units of equipment were involved in the emergency response.

The day before it was reported that on the shore of the Azov Sea in the Krasnodar region after the accident with tankers again recorded emissions of fuel oil, the monitoring zone of beaches was extended to 265 km. By Tuesday morning, specialists managed to clean 6 km of the shore and collected 150 kg of contaminated soil.

The tankers Volgoneft-212 andVolgoneft-239crashed in the Kerch Strait due to bad weather on December 15, 2024. The incident resulted in a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels, one person died. On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group was set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency.

Later, on January 3, an oil slick was discovered in Sevastopol at the entrance to Balaklava Bay. The next day, it was reported about the advance of fuel oil to the north along the Crimean coast, and Sevastopol declared a state of emergency of regional character.

On January 11, the emergency threat regime of a municipal nature was introduced due to the identified fuel oil stains in the Chernomorsky district in the west of Crimea.
