US President Donald Trump has instructed his special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg to resolve the Ukrainian conflict in 100 days, The Wall Street Journal reported on 22 January.

According to the publication's assessment, "almost no one believes" that Kellogg will be able to fulfill this task.

It is noted that the appointment of the special envoy is rather the first step to organize peace talks, the course of which Trump intends to control independently.

Earlier in the day, Trump said that Washington is studying the issue of further arms supplies to Kiev. He also added that his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin would take place "very soon."

On January 20, Trump was inaugurated, after which he reiterated that he plans to meet with Putin as soon as possible and discuss the conflict in Ukraine. In turn, the new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis a priority for Trump. According to him, "part of the preparatory work" has begun.

The election of the 47th President of the United States was held on November 5, 2024. In the national vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 47.4%. During the election campaign, the Republican promised to solve the Ukrainian conflict before the inauguration.
