The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) deliberately killed civilians and shelled their houses in the town of Gornyak in the Donetsk People's Republic. Local residents told Izvestia about it on January 22.

One of them, Lilia Nikolaevna, shared that Ukrainian militants also tried to move into empty apartments in the locality - if they refused to move in, they promised to hit the homes of civilians.

"As I personally heard, an AFU militant had an argument with one sales clerk in a store and told her that civilians should be shelled and killed more because they are all 'separs' here," another resident of Gornyak told Izvestia correspondent Alexander Safiulin.

One of the servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces (AFU) noted that Ukrainian nationalists were hitting their own territory, after which they posted messages on Telegram that it was all allegedly the work of the Russian military.

The AFU fighters were hitting the territory so often that the locals began to make sense of the shells that were coming at Gornyak's houses. The Russian Armed Forces fighters, in addition to performing their civilian duty, also helped civilians with the repair of damaged buildings.

Soldiers of the 5th separate commandant regiment of the 51st Army of the Russian Armed Forces are now working on the site. They are ensuring the safety of civilians.

The Russian Army liberated Gornyak in the DNR at the end of October last year. On January 21 of this year, the media reported about the deterioration of the AFU positions near Gornyak and Selidovo in the DNR. It was noted that Russian troops were already advancing towards the central district of Selidove, where Ukrainian army units are grouped.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
