US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has begun detaining illegal migrants for further deportation. This was announced on January 21 by Thomas Homan, a border security supervisor in the administration of President Donald Trump.

"Yes, Immigration and Customs Enforcement is already enforcing the law today. <...> That will be our priority," he said on CNN.

Homan said ICE's actions cannot be called "raids" because they are part of targeted law enforcement operations. The curator believes that such procedures are carefully planned and aimed at apprehending illegal migrants with criminal convictions and those who pose a threat to public safety.

On the same day, a coalition of at least 18 USA states filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump's decision to restrict birthright citizenship in the United States. Another group of states, which included Arizona and Washington, filed another separate lawsuit against Trump' s signature decision.

Earlier in the day, media outlets pointed out Trump's violation of the U.S. Constitution in the immigrant law. The NYT reported that Trump cannot repeal birthright citizenship on his own. Since the president of the country does not have the power to amend the Constitution on his own, any executive order limiting or eliminating birthright citizenship would be challenged in court as a violation of the 14th Amendment.

El Financiero newspaper noted at the time that protesters burned a Trump doll in front of the U.S. Embassy in Mexico. The gesture, according to them, represents dissatisfaction with the "offensive and inhumane, anti-migration and protectionist" policies of the U.S. leader.
