TheU.S. may impose trade duties on imports from Mexico and China up to 25% from February 1. This was reported by CNN on January 21.

"We're talking about imposing duties of 10% on China based on the fact that they are sending fentanyl to Mexico and Canada," United States President Donald Trump said at a signing ceremony in the Oval Office of the White House.

According to him, the date of February 1 is a tentative date for the introduction of duties of 25% against China and Mexico.

Earlier in the day, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that the United States would have to buy resources from Russia if United States President Donald Trump imposes tariffs of 25% on Canadian goods.

Before that, on January 14, it was reported that Canada's ambassador to Washington, Kristen Hillman, said that the country was ready to buy more of various goods from the United States in order to mitigate the threat of Trump's duties. The ambassador noted that Canada is not interested in a trade conflict with the United States.

Earlier, on December 3, Trump said during a meeting with Trudeau that Canada could become the 51st state of the United States if Ottawa fails to address illegal migration and drug smuggling. He noted that he would impose import duties of 25% on all Canadian goods.
