Ukrainian militants have been shooting civilians in Gornyak in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR). Local resident and People's Front volunteer Dmitry Shafiyev told Izvestia correspondent Alexander Safiulin about this on January 22.

"They were fighting, especially when they just came in. There the block at the entrance was all blown up from the Ukrainian troops. There are cases, they shot people. I have people working, one here came out, something, somewhere, tra-ta-ta-ta - and that's it! The Zhduns shot people, and the drones did terrible things here. They killed civilians, just civilians," the volunteer commented.

Soldiers of the 5th separate commandant regiment of the 51st Army of the Russian Armed Forces are now working on the site. They ensure the safety of civilians.

"The troops came in and started to move. First they took people away, there was a distribution, we took people away for security purposes. First they started distributing food, the soldiers brought it, they helped us and now they are helping us perfectly," Shafiyev shared.

According to an eyewitness, the volunteers first of all tried to repair the damaged roofs in Gornyak so that people would not have water flowing on their heads, and although it is impossible to do certain things now because of the cold, life in the village has already been organized.

The day before, the media reported about the deterioration of the AFU's positions near Hornyak and Selidovo in the DNR. It was noted that the Russian troops are already advancing towards the central district of Selidovo, where the Ukrainian army units are grouped. In Gornyak, the Russian Armed Forces (AF) moved from the northern neighborhoods to storm the southern neighborhoods.

Over the past week, the Russian army liberated several settlements: Nevskoye in the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR), Maximilianivka, Mikhailivka, Krasny Yar in the DNR and Levadnoye in the Zaporizhzhya region.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
