US President Donald Trump on January 21 announced the creation of Stargate, which will invest up to $500 billion in artificial intelligence (AI) as part of a new partnership with OpenAI, Oracle and SoftBank. This is reported by the Associated Press (AP).

Stargate will develop projects for AI development in Texas. The initial investment is expected to be $100 billion and then exceed that amount five times over.

"These world-leading tech giants are announcing the creation of Stargate. Take note of that name, I think you'll be hearing a lot about it in the future. A new American company that will invest at least $500 billion in AI infrastructure in the United States," Trump said at a speech at the White House.

According to the United States leader, Stargate will build physical and virtual infrastructure to support the next generation of AI. Trump said it is the largest artificial intelligence infrastructure project in history.

Earlier, on January 13, the United States imposed new restrictions on the export of artificial intelligence (AI) chips and models in order to protect the interests of the country and national security. It is noted that in order to strengthen national security, it is important that the country does not take this critical technology abroad, and the world AI works on "American rails".

Before that, on January 9, American billionaire Ilon Musk in an interview with Stagwell Chairman Mark Penn said that humanity has exhausted the stock of knowledge to train artificial intelligence (AI) models. Musk said that in order to develop artificial intelligence, it is necessary to use data generated by the AI itself, which will lead to "self-learning". He also believes that by the end of this year, artificial intelligence could surpass human capabilities.
