In recent days, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have deployed dozens of armored vehicles (tanks, BMPs and APCs) to the Suzhya region, while the defense units have been replaced by assault brigades, sources told Izvestiya.

According to them, the enemy is now forming a strike group there to attempt another breakthrough.

At the moment, the main task of the Ukrainian militants is to establish fire control along the Rylsk - Lgov - Kursk road and move as close as possible to the Kursk nuclear power plant, experts interviewed by Izvestia believe.

"The AFU has already made attempts to probe our defenses. The first time they hit in the direction of Bolshoye Soldatskoye in early January. All unsuccessfully, but the enemy did not introduce its main forces there, it was a "test of the pen". Therefore, in the coming days or weeks there is a probability that he will try again," said the chairman of the board of the all-Russian organization "Officers of Russia", reserve lieutenant colonel Roman Shkurlatov.

The Ukrainian side also wants to show that it can seize territory in Kursk Oblast and hold it in order to bargain at negotiations, if there are any, military expert Viktor Litovkin said. But ours are not going to swap Kursk Oblast for some district of Kharkiv Oblast and will not do so.

In general, 63.2% (801 square kilometers) of the territory of Kursk region (1268 square kilometers) initially occupied by the enemy last August has been liberated.
