On January 21, a powerful fire broke out in one of the hotels of the Kartalkaya ski resort in Turkey. The media report dozens of dead and injured. The country has declared mourning. What is known about the incident - in the material "Izvestia".

What happened in Turkey

- The fire broke out in the hotel Grand Kartal in the province of Bolu in the north-west of the Republic.

- According to CNN Türk, the incident occurred early in the morning, about 3:30 local time (coincides with Moscow time).

- The fire started in the restaurant part of the hotel, quickly spreading through the building. It is specified that the hotel has 12 floors.

- To eliminate the fire was attracted 458 people from various services and 156 units of equipment.

- Local television showed footage on which the fire engulfed the upper floors and the roof of the hotel.

The dead and injured

- The victims of the fire were 66 people, Haber Global reports, citing Interior Minister Ali Yerlikai.

- According to the minister, another 51 people were injured.

- Eyewitnesses reported that during the fire, people tried to escape through windows to escape the flames.

--A total of 237 people were staying at the hotel. Due to vacations, the hotel's occupancy rate was in the neighborhood of 80-90%.

Statements by officials

- The Interior Ministry of the Republic said that the fire in the hotel had been brought under control. The extinguishing was complicated by its location on the mountainside at an altitude of 2,200 meters.

- In the Ministry of Justice of Turkey said that in connection with the fire in the hotel detained four people. As specified by the head of the department Yilmaz Tunc, among the detainees is the owner of the hotel.

- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan instructed the heads of the Interior Ministry, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Tourism of the country to go to the scene of the tragedy. He also said on social media that he was following the development of events.

- Russian leader Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to his Turkish counterpart in connection with the deaths in the fire. The President wished the victims a speedy recovery.

- The country declared mourning on January 22. Flags on buildings will be lowered until sunset.
