One person killed and one injured in explosion at Spanish Barcelona port

One person was killed and one injured in an explosion in the port of Spanish Barcelona. This was reported on Tuesday, January 21, by the General Directorate of Civil Protection of Catalonia in X (former Twitter).

According to him, the explosion at the terminals occurred during maintenance work. It is specified that a tanker with methyl acetate - a flammable product - exploded. The resulting fire was extinguished.

"One of the two victims has died. <...> There are 11 requests for medical aid," the department informed.

A special emergency plan was activated in response to the incident.

Earlier in the day it was reported that four people were injured in a domestic gas explosion in a hotel at the ski resort Yıldız Mountain in the Turkish city of Sivas. It was specified that two skiers and one coach were slightly injured in the explosion, another sports instructor received second-degree burns to the hand and face.
