Trump brought back the death penalty in the U.S. at the federal level
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on the return of the death penalty at the federal level. This is reported on January 20 on the website of the White House.
"The policy of the United States is to ensure that the laws authorizing the death penalty are respected and faithfully applied, as well as to counteract politicians and judges who undermine the law by obstructing and preventing the execution of death sentences," - stated in the message.
It is specified that the U.S. Attorney General must seek the death penalty for particularly serious crimes, including the murder of a law enforcement officer.
Also according to the decision of Trump, the attorney general must take all necessary legal actions to ensure that each state has an adequate supply of drugs that are necessary to carry out a lethal injection.
In addition, he must evaluate the prison locations and conditions for each of the 37 killers whose federal death sentences were commuted by former President Joe Biden.
On Dec. 23, Biden commuted the sentences of 37 death row inmates. The White House specified that the sentences would be reclassified to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Reuters later said that Trump harshly condemned and called Biden's decision disgusting. He added that it is a slap in the face for the victims, their families and loved ones.
