- Lukashenko expressed dissatisfaction with Trump's inauguration speech and felt sorry for Biden
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko criticized the inauguration speech of U.S. President Donald Trump and pointed out his incorrect attitude to the outgoing leader of the country Joe Biden. He shared his impressions on January 21, talking to the workers of Minsk Automobile Plant.
Lukashenko noted that he was not thrilled with Biden's policies, but Trump's behavior at the inauguration ceremony angered him with the way he treated his previous colleague.
"Frankly, I wasn't thrilled with Joe Biden. But I watched him, he somehow looked more decent than Trump himself. Sitting like that, slumped over. As it was, everything was already there, you (Trump. - ed.) have already said it all. Why did you defame this poor old man half a speech?" - BelTA agency quotes his words.
According to Lukashenko, he was left with a negative impression not only after Trump's words to Biden, but also to former Vice President Kamala Harris.
"She fought, well done, held firm. And you've got to give her credit. You don't have to destroy them. <...> I was no longer listening when he (Trump. - Ed.) began to denigrate this Biden, Harris and others. You can't do that. You can't insult, insult those who came before you. Well, they did badly - correct these mistakes, people will see and thank you. This is the essence of our presidential work," said the Belarusian leader.
January 20, Trump's inauguration took place. It was noted that he did not mention Russia and Ukraine in his speech. The main theme of the speech of the 47th President of the United States was the internal problems of the country and the defense of their borders. At the same time, he promised that the strength of the United States will allow to "end all wars" and ensure unity in the world, as well as announced the beginning of the "golden age of America".
The US President immediately announced that on the first day he had canceled about 80 executive orders of the Biden administration and signed more than 200 new decrees. The former US leader himself then published a farewell selfie from the White House in the social network X (former Twitter). The photo shows him together with his wife Jill. The caption reads, "We love you, America."
Before that, on January 15, Biden made a farewell 17-minute speech, addressing the nation.
The election for the 47th president of the United States took place on November 5, 2024. In the national vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while the Democratic candidate Harris received 47.4%.
