- Ushakov said the conversation between Putin and Xi Jinping was not related to Trump's inauguration
The conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping is not related to the inauguration of US leader Donald Trump. Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov told reporters on January 21.
"I will say right away that we have absolutely no connection. I noted at the very beginning that the leaders traditionally at the beginning of the year hold either a phone conversation or an exchange of views on the CCS," he told reporters.
According to Ushakov, the agreement on a video call between Putin and Xi Jinping for January 21 was reached back in December 2024. He emphasized that this date was not chosen taking into account the inauguration day in Washington.
On the same day, the Russian leader and the Chinese President held a conversation via video link. At the beginning of the conversation, Xi Jinping noted that he was very happy to see Putin on the eve of the Chinese New Year, which will come on February 10. He pointed out that China and Russia reached a number of important agreements last year, marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Prior to that, last December, Putin noted that Russian-Chinese interaction has become in recent decades what it has never been before. He attributed this primarily to the development of relations between the two countries on the basis of mutual trust.
