Ushakov reveals details of talks between Putin and Xi Jinping
The talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping via video link were thorough and took place in a friendly atmosphere. This was reported by Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov on January 21.
"It was a very thorough conversation, held, as always, in a friendly atmosphere, it lasted 1 hour and 35 minutes," Ushakov said.
He noted that Putin and Xi Jinping used simultaneous translation and discussed in detail both bilateral and international topics, emphasizing that Moscow and Beijing widely celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2024.
Ushakov recalled that Russia and China act in concert on the world stage, the President and the Chinese President discussed the implementation of the agreements they reached during their face-to-face meetings in 2024, including at the BRICS summit in Kazan. In addition, they paid considerable attention to the topic of economic and trade cooperation and were satisfied with its steady dynamics against the background of unprecedented sanctions imposed by Western countries.
"The heads of state stressed the need to further improve transport interconnectivity, modernize border infrastructure, checkpoints and increase cargo traffic between our countries," the Russian presidential aide added.
Ushakov pointed out that it is traditional for the leaders to hold such communication at the beginning of the year and this video call has nothing to do with the inauguration of U .S. President Donald Trump the day before. The date of the contacts was agreed upon back in December with no comparison to Trump's inauguration.
Talks between the Russian leader and the Chinese president took place earlier in the day. During them, Xi Jinping indicated that in the new year he is ready, together with Putin, to take Russia-China relations "to a new height" and confront external uncertainties, based on maintaining stability and stress-resistance in cooperation between the two countries, on international justice and equality.
During the direct line last December 19, Putin noted that the interaction between Moscow and Beijing in recent years has reached a level that has never been seen before. The head of state attributed this to the fact that the relations between the two states are built on the basis of mutual trust.
The day before, on January 20, Trump took the oath of office in the rotunda of the Capitol, becoming the 47th President of the United States. Along with him, Vice President Jay Dee Vance was sworn in. This is Trump's second term as president, the first time he was the American leader from 2017-2021. In the inaugural speech, the new US President announced the beginning of the "golden age of America", reports "Gazeta.Ru".
