Putin invited Xi Jinping to the Victory Day Parade on May 9
Chinese President Xi Jinping has been invited to the Victory Day Parade on May 9. This was announced on January 21 by Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Yuri Ushakov after the talks between the leaders of the two states.
"We have invited many heads of state to the festive event in Moscow on May 9 and, of course, invited the President of the People's Republic of China," he informed.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in turn, was invited to take part in Chinese events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory over Japan and the end of World War II.
"These events will be held on September 3 in Beijing, and the Russian leader has also received an invitation to participate," Ushakov specified.
The presidential aide also pointed out that during the conversation the sides, as leaders of the founding countries of the UN this year, outlined the goal to honorably celebrate the 80th anniversary of the victory.
Putin and Xi Jinping held talks via video link earlier in the day. During them, the Russian leader said that the ideology of fascism, Nazism and militarism should not be allowed to raise its head again.
Earlier, on December 19, 2024, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Russia would invite representatives of the anti-Hitler coalition countries to the Victory Day celebrations. Prior to that, on November 28, Putin invited military formations of the CSTO countries to take part in the Victory Day parade on May 9 on Red Square in Moscow.
In 2025, May 9 marks 80 years since the victory in the Great Patriotic War. In January 1945, the USSR army launched an offensive on Berlin. As a result of the fighting at 00:43 Moscow time on May 9, the commanders-in-chief signed an act of unconditional surrender of Germany, which served as the end of the Great Patriotic War.
