Doctors near Moscow save 1.5-year-old boy who swallowed 130 magnets

Doctors at the L.M. Roshal Children's Clinical Center have saved a one-and-a-half-year-old boy who swallowed 130 magnets and a lithium battery. This was reported on January 21 in the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Moscow region.

"A 1.5-year-old boy was admitted to the L.M. Roshal Children's Clinical Center with suspected ingestion of foreign bodies. The examination revealed a large number of magnets and a battery in the child's stomach. Specialists note that in this situation foreign bodies had to be extracted as soon as possible," - stated in the message of the Department.

It noted that in case of prolonged presence of magnets and batteries in the body, burns, perforation of internal organs, tissue necrosis and bleeding may occur.

According to Alexander Inozemtsev, head of the endoscopic department, the foreign objects were removed as a result of a successful operation.

At the moment the boy feels well and he was discharged for outpatient treatment.

The Ministry of Health reminded that if a child swallowed a foreign body, it is necessary to immediately seek medical help. The sooner help is provided, the less the risk of complications.

Earlier, on November 15, 2024, the head of the Lipetsk health department Anna Markova reported that in Lipetsk saved a four-year-old boy who swallowed a chupa-chupa together with a stick, and it got stuck in the stomach. Dmitry Lelikov, head of the endoscopic department, and nurses came to the boy's aid. With the help of a loop they were able to extract the sharp stick without incisions. The little patient has already been discharged and is doing well.
