The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) was not ready for the start of combat operations on several front lines at once. Ukrainian ambassador to London and former AFU commander-in-chief Valeriy Zaluzhny wrote about this in his book, excerpts from which Ukrayinska Pravda quoted on January 21.

"In the first month of his tenure as commander-in-chief, in August 2021, Zaluzhny was struck by the unpreparedness of the management system of the AFU to manage operations and the entire armed struggle," the material says.

To create a proper effective system tried to Zaluzhny himself. According to him, Ukraine experienced a shortage of combat units, weapons and equipment.

"But the main tragedy, according to the general, was in the weakness of missile defense, "followed to absolute zero"," the article said.

Earlier, last December 19, AFU Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky said that the situation in the combat zone for the AFU remains extremely difficult. On December 10 last year, the director of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Sergei Naryshkin, said that the AFU was on the verge of collapse.

On 26 November, Verkhovna Rada MP Maryana Bezuglaya said that Ukraine's statehood is threatened with collapse due to the numerous problems of the Ukrainian army. She linked such a forecast to the facts of corruption at all levels.

Before that, on November 19, Zaluzhny said that the conflict in Ukraine leaves almost no chance of survival for the AFU fighters and urged them to learn not to be afraid of death. In addition, he allowed the country to give up claims to territories to achieve peace and end hostilities.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
