"Rostelecom previously recorded information security incidents at one of its contractors. This is how the company commented on information about a possible data leak on January 21.

"In response to anonymous posts about data leaks attributed to Rostelecom's Internet resources, the company reports that it has previously recorded information security incidents at one of its contractors servicing these resources," the statement reads.

It is specified that especially sensitive personal data of Rostelecom clients were not affected. Nevertheless, the company's experts recommended users to change their passwords and enable two-factor identification to protect personal information.

Earlier in the day, it was reported on the web that there was a leak of information due to a group of hackers Silent Crow, who as evidence provided data samples containing materials about users and appeals from September 20, 2024. According to the hackers' claim, the data leak affected 154,000 email addresses and 101,000 phone numbers.

Before that, on November 20, 2024, the head of Rostelecom, Mikhail Oseevsky, reported the leak of all Russians' data to the Net. In his opinion, the darknet has information about citizens collected by Ukrainian hackers or special services, which creates an opportunity for "various kinds of ways to penetrate into life".
