"The next Google" should be created in Europe, so it is necessary to focus on economic growth. This statement was made on January 21 by German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck.

"We must significantly improve the system of tax incentives, research allowances and the competitive environment itself, so that not only the economy grows, but that Europe produces the technologies of the future. <...> The next Google must come from Europe," he said in an interview with DW TV channel published on YouTube.

The vice chancellor also noted that Europe and Germany in particular have security problems. According to Habeck, the FRG has a shortage of investment in the Bundeswehr. He added that it is necessary to "catch up as soon as possible."

In addition, the vice chancellor specified that Europe has prepared in case the US decides to impose trade duties. He added that countries could develop retaliatory measures, but called it the wrong path.

"That said, Europe must make it clear to the US that a customs war will only hurt us all. This is the lesson we should learn from [US President Donald] Trump's administration - Europe must be united and Germany must contribute to that," Habeck emphasized.

The Vice Chancellor added that Germany's rise could be undermined by protectionist policies. He pointed to the need for the FRG to conclude new trade treaties, because at the moment China is actively entering the global market, while the states are protecting domestic trade.

On the eve, French Prime Minister Francois Bayre said that France and the European Union (EU) will be "crushed" by Trump's policy if the Europeans do nothing. He called on the people of Europe to reunite to address the US threat.

Before that, on January 15, former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl said that Trump does not care about the European Union, which is currently in crisis. She expressed confidence that the politician is wise enough to focus on the problems of the United States after coming to power.
