In order for the car engine to start confidently in the cold season, it is first of all necessary to keep the battery charged, as the load on it increases in winter. Vadim Strelbitsky, director of the mechanical repair department of Avilon Kia, told about it, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports on January 21.
At subzero temperatures, it is necessary to use winter engine oil in the engine, as it has a lower viscosity. It is also important to fill up with high-quality winter fuel, especially if it is diesel, the expert explained.
In addition, it is necessary to regularly check the plugs and the ignition system as a whole. Maintenance with timely replacement of filters and other consumables also plays an important role, the expert added.
Earlier, on January 16, auto expert Alexander Sosnovsky said that the same mileage of the car in the urban environment or on the highway has a different impact on the life of the engine oil. The same time of work of the power unit in motor-hours at low loads at about idle speeds and work at maximum load at high speeds also affects it differently.
On January 9, auto expert Pavel Bakharev warned that if engine oil freezes in a car, the engine should not be restarted: this can damage its components. The oil may freeze because of its viscosity class, which does not correspond to winter conditions, he explained.
