Over the past week in Russia, the number of people falling ill with acute respiratory viral infections increased by 29.1% compared to the previous week. As reported on Tuesday, January 21, in Rospotrebnadzor, more than 570 thousand cases of the disease were registered in the country.
"For the third week of 2025 in Russia there was an increase in the incidence of respiratory viral infections by 29.1% compared to the previous week. <...> Exceeding the national average is observed in 49 regions of the country," - stated in the Telegram-channel of the department.
At the same time in 27 regions of the country the number of hospitalized with colds increased by 30% or more. It is noted that the increase in cases of acute respiratory viruses caused mainly viruses of non-influenza etiology, with a predominant share of rhinoviruses.
Also at the end of the third week of 2025 in the Russian Federation registered 9.6 thousand COVID-19. This is 2.8% higher than last week, specified in Rospotrebnadzor.
Earlier, on January 10, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, scientific director of the I.I. Mechnikov Research Institute of Vaccines and Sera Vitaly Zverev spoke about the danger of metapneumovirus for children and the elderly. He noted that this virus among all ARVI ranges from 0.1% to 1% and is especially dangerous for children under a year old and elderly people suffering from chronic diseases.
