Trump gave himself another half day to end the conflict in Ukraine
Inaugurated US President Donald Trump, commenting on his pledge to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine within 24 hours of starting in office, said that he still has some time left to do so. His inauguration ceremony was broadcast on YouTube on January 20.
"It's only been half a day. I have another half a day in reserve. Let's see, we want to make it in time," the politician said.
He also added that he plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and to do it as soon as possible. At the same time, Trump noted that it is with the Russian leader, and not with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky (the term of office expired on May 20, 2024), to talk about possible deadlines for ending the conflict.
Earlier, on January 20, Trump did not mention Russia and Ukraine in his inauguration speech. The main topic of the president-elect's speech was the internal problems of the United States and the defense of its borders. Among other things, Trump promised in the speech to return the Panama Canal to the United States and to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the American Gulf. At the same time, in his speech at the Capitol, Trump said that the strength of the United States will allow to "end all wars" and ensure unity in the world.
Prior to that, Trump took the oath of office in the Capitol rotunda, becoming the 47th president of the United States. Along with him, Vice President Jay Dee Vance was sworn in. This is Trump's second term as president, the first time he was the American leader from 2017-2021. In his inauguration speech, the new US president announced the beginning of the "golden age of America"
The election of the 47th president of the United States took place on November 5. In the popular vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while former US Vice President Kamala Harris received 47.4%. Speaking to supporters, the Republican said that his goal as head of state considers the end of military conflicts in the world.
