Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky received an invitation to Trump's inauguration
Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky, unlike Canadian politicians, was invited to the inauguration of US President Donald Trump. The National Post reported on January 20.
"NHL Hall of Fame member and Trump family friend Wayne Gretzky and his wife Janet were among those present in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C.," the newspaper informed.
It is specified that the relationship between Gretzky and Trump became more public in November after the couple attended Trump's election victory party in Florida.
"We're very proud, we love America, we love Canada... God bless everyone!" - posted Janet Gretzky on her Instagram account (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist in Russia, banned) along with a photo of her and Wayne outside a building on the east side of National Mall.
Earlier in the day, Trump took the oath of office in the Capitol rotunda, becoming the 47th president of the United States. Along with him, Vice President Jay Dee Vance was sworn in. This is Trump's second term as president, the first time he was the American leader from 2017-2021. In his inaugural speech, the new US president announced the beginning of the "golden age of America".
Before the ceremony, Trump and his wife Melania attended a tea party at the White House with outgoing President Joe Biden and his wife Jill.
The election of the 47th president of the United States was held on November 5. In the popular vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris received 47.4%. Speaking to supporters, the Republican said that his goal as head of state considers the end of military conflicts in the world.
