US President Donald Trump on January 20 instructed the State Department to implement the policy of protecting national interests on the principle of "America First". This follows from the statement published on the White House portal.
"At the direction of the President, the State Department will pursue a foreign policy focused on America's interests," the statement said.
The president's administration will now focus on strengthening the country's sovereignty and spreading US views abroad.
Earlier in the day, Trump announced the beginning of "America's golden age" after taking the oath of office. He added that he will put the US first, noting that the country will become bigger, stronger and far more exceptional than ever before. In addition, the new president promised to quickly return hope, security and peace to Americans.
