- The political scientist noted the importance of the interests of all peoples in resolving the conflict in Ukraine
Ethnic minorities live in Ukraine and are trying to defend themselves, whose interests should be taken into account when settling the Ukrainian conflict. Military political analyst Ivan Konovalov said this in a conversation with Izvestiya on 20 January.
Thus the expert agreed with the thought of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who said earlier in the day that in order to achieve long-term peace, it is necessary to respect the legitimate interests of all people, all peoples who live in the region.
"Naturally, taking into account the interests of all those who represent this region was clear from the beginning. The very essence of the current situation was that <...> the coup was staged in Kiev with the support of zaprudnaya Ukraine. Eastern Ukraine, led by Donbas, rebelled against this coup," he recalled.
Konovalov also noted that Romanians, Hungarians and Bulgarians also live on the territory of Ukraine, and the country is located at the intersection with Slovakia. He pointed out that representatives of national minorities in the region are especially difficult in the conditions of the current virtually Nazi regime in Kiev.
Earlier in the day, Putin noted during a meeting with permanent members of the Security Council that the goal of resolving the situation is not a brief ceasefire or a "respite for regrouping forces," but a long-term peace that will be based on respect for the legitimate interests of all people living in the region.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
