Parallel imports of cars in Russia fell by 20%

In 2024, 181.2 thousand new passenger cars were imported into Russia under various alternative import schemes, which is 20% lower than a year earlier. This was reported on January 20 in his Telegram-channel by Sergei Tselikov, director of the analytical agency "Avtostat".

More than 80% of these cars were customs cleared for individuals. Most of all Geely cars were imported into Russia under alternative schemes (the share of 13.7%), and the most popular model was the crossover Geely Monjaro, which accounts for two-thirds of imports.

Another Chinese brand - Lixiang (13.2%), which is not officially represented on the Russian market, takes the second place by the share of imports. Next are Toyota (11.5%), BMW (7.3%), Mercedes-Benz (4.3%), as well as Jetta, Zeekr, Kia and Hyundai, which rounded out the top ten.

According to the analyst, nearly a third (31%) of alternative imports are hybrids and about 7% are electric vehicles. Most of the cars on parallel imports in 2024 were imported from Kyrgyzstan, China and Belarus.

On January 17, "Izvestia" found out that sales of new passenger cars of premium brands from Europe, theUnited States and Japan, which are no longer officially represented on the country's market, have increased in Russia. It is noteworthy that despite the sanctions, including the ban on importing certain cars into our country, some models showed literally explosive growth in sales.
