The State Duma decided to finalize the law banning vape devices in Russia
The Council of the State Duma (GD) has decided to finalize the text of the bill on a complete ban on vape devices in Russia and prepare its new version. This was announced by the head of the Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs Yaroslav Nilov on January 20.
"It was decided to finalize the text and prepare a new version of the interfactional bill on a complete ban on vape devices," he wrote in Telegram-channel.
He recalled that this topic has existed for a long time. In addition, Nilov specified that at the moment in more than 50 countries vape devices are either banned or their distribution is seriously limited.
Earlier, on December 26, 2024, a bill on a complete ban on the sale of vapes and liquids for them was sent to the specialized committee of the State Duma. The reason for the creation of the project was a sharp increase in the number of users of electronic smoking devices.
Before that, on December 10, the State Duma at the plenary session adopted in the first reading a bill proposing to introduce criminal punishment for the repeated sale of vapes, other products with nicotine and devices for its consumption to children.
In April, the Russian government announced its readiness to support such a bill, because practice shows that current measures to regulate the sale of vape products are ineffective. At the same time, the country is implementing a policy to combat tobacco use, and the initiative would be in line with this vector.
