Trump adviser says Zelensky ready for end-of-conflict talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expired on May 20, 2024, is ready to negotiate an end to the Ukrainian conflict. This was stated on January 19 in an interview with the American TV channel CBS News by Mike Waltz, national security adviser to US President-elect Donald Trump.
"And in fact, Zelensky is even now coming into the room saying, 'We're willing to work with you, President Trump, to stop this [conflict],'" Waltz told CBS News.
Trump's national security adviser added that America's future president is determined to end the Ukrainian conflict as soon as possible.
Now, according to Waltz, the Trump administration is working on the issues of organizing negotiations between the parties to the conflict, namely: who to put at the negotiating table, how to do it and what will be the scope of a potential deal.
Earlier in the day, Svetlana Zhurova, first deputy chairman of the State Duma's international affairs committee, expressed the opinion that the US president-elect's intention to call Russian leader Vladimir Putin after the inauguration was related to the Ukrainian conflict.
On that day, CNN also reported, citing sources, that Trump instructed to organize a phone conversation with Putin a few days after the inauguration, RT reported.
The day before, at a rally before his supporters at the Capital One sports arena in Washington, D.C., Trump again promised to end the conflict in Ukraine and prevent World War III.
On January 10, Trump once again emphasized the need to "end" the Ukrainian conflict. He added that he was preparing for a meeting with Putin after his inauguration.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
