Fraudsters have started creating new sites to steal funds from cryptocurrency wallets. Resources use the mention of the $TRUMP meme token to attract victims, Maria Sinitsyna, senior analyst of Digital Risk Protection at F.A.C.C.T., told Izvestia. Maria Sinitsyna on Jan. 21.

"News about the new U.S. president [Donald Trump] has long been used by scammers for various scam schemes. Attackers took advantage of the infodump on the occasion of the $TRUMP and $MELANIA token issuance to create cryptocurrency phishing sites. F.A.S.S.T.'s Digital Risk Protection analysts have discovered more than a dozen sites for stealing funds from crypto wallets using the $TRUMP meme token to attract victims," the expert said.

As Sinitsyna explained, wallet holders are offered to link their wallet to the resource to check their right to participate in operations with the cryptocurrency launched on January 18, 2025. The resources list the official address of the contract (token), but when the wallet is connected, the victim is asked for a Seed-phrase from the wallet.

"Also, fraudsters can "hijack" a cryptocurrency wallet or connect a drainer program to it to withdraw all funds from it," the analyst noted.

According to her, one detected version of phishing sites with the theme of meme-token offers to transfer cryptocurrency on the requisites under the pretext of buying cryptocurrency $TRUMP. However, in reality, the funds will actually go to the attackers' cryptocurrency wallet.

"Cryptocurrency holders should be careful about online resources and tokens created on the news wave. Binding their cryptocurrency wallets to dubious sites, you can become a victim of fraud and lose all the funds stored on them," Sinitsyna concluded.

Earlier, on January 18, Trump announced the launch of the $TRUMP memcoin. The next day, January 19, the wife of the American leader Melania Trump also announced the launch of her own cryptocurrency - $MELANIA.

BitRiver financial analyst Vladislav Antonov told Izvestia that investing in the $MELANIA memcoin carries significant risks. He reminded that meme tokens are known for their extreme volatility and are often created solely for speculative purposes.
