Washington will increase contacts with Moscow after American President-elect Donald Trump comes to power. This was stated by Igor Prokopenko, deputy general director for documentary and journalistic projects of the REN TV channel and host of the information and analytical program "Military Secret" on January 20.

Thus, he predicted frequent interaction between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the elected American leader.

"I think that there will be increased communication. There will definitely be Putin-Trump calls, there may even be a Putin-Trump meeting, and there may be more than one," Prokopenko said during a roundtable discussion on "Donald Trump's return to the White House: a new round of American politics?" at the Rossiya Segodnya international multimedia press center.

He recalled that back during Trump's first presidency, he was labeled an agent of Putin. That is why, in terms of preserving his own image, the American leader will pedal the topic of contacts with the Russian president with calls and meetings, the expert said.

According to him, we should also expect a sharp increase in communication between the US and Russia at the diplomatic level. Prokopenko noted that he believes it is possible that several diplomats will return to Washington and Moscow.

Trump announcedon January 9about the preparation of a meeting with the Russian president. The American leader-elect added that he plans to hold all meetings after the inauguration scheduled for January 20. In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on January 10 that Russia does not have certain conditions for negotiations with the United States. He also said that many countries are ready to become platforms for a meeting between the two leaders.

On January 10, American political scientist Malek Dudakov said that Trump may lift some of the anti-Russian sanctions in case of successful negotiations with Moscow. According to the expert, if certain agreements are reached, Trump may also return some Russian assets.
