US President-elect Donald Trump may cancel decisions on anti-Russian sanctions and military support for Kiev, adopted by executive orders of his predecessor. This was reported by political scientist, associate professor of the Department of American Studies of St. Petersburg State University Grigory Yarygin on Monday, January 20.

Earlier, on January 19, CNN reported that Trump and his team intend to "shock the system" with the implementation of the Republican's plans to sign more than 100 decrees immediately after his inauguration, according to 360.ru.

At the same time, Yarygin noted that part of the anti-Russian sanctions operate on the basis of laws passed by the US Congress, and the new president cannot cancel them. As for the restrictive measures that were introduced by the American leader Joe Biden, bypassing Congress, Trump is able to cancel them.

He recalled that this has already happened many times in American history. For example, Trump, for example, withdrew from the Paris Climate Agreement, and his successor, Biden, brought the Paris Climate Agreement back to the United States.

"So such steps are indeed taken by presidents with respect to the previous administration, and Donald Trump will do it. It's going to affect emigration, it's going to affect military support for either Taiwan, Ukraine or Israel. The only question is how quickly he will do all this, because he promised to cancel 100 to 200 wrong decisions, which he calls radical, hasty, stupid," Yarygin said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

The political scientist pointed out that the documents that Trump will sign already today, January 20, after the inauguration, most likely prepared and changes should be expected before 18:00 Washington.

Earlier in the day, Trump promised his supporters that at the time of his inauguration in the United States will end a four-year period of decline, reports IA Regnum. In addition, the Republican announced plans to immediately suspend enforcement of the law banning TikTok, RT reports.

The Guardian also wrote about Trump's intentions to sign more than 100 documents on the first day of his presidency. According to it, the measures also include a program of mass deportation of migrants, declaration of a state of emergency at the border and imposition of a 25 percent tariff on US exports.

The election for the 47th president of the United States was held on November 5, 2024. In the national vote, Trump received 51 percent of the vote, while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 47.4 percent. Trump's inauguration will take place on January 20, the beginning is scheduled for 20:00 Moscow time.
