Media reported the detention of several high-ranking military officers in Ukraine
The Main Bureau of Investigation (GBI) of Ukraine has detained three high-ranking officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported on January 20 by Ukrainian journalist Yuriy Butusov, his words are quoted by Strana.ua.
"According to his data, the former commander of the 155th mechanized brigade "Anna Kievskaya" Colonel Dmitry Ryumshin was detained in Chernivtsi," - reported in the Telegram-channel of the publication.
In addition, Butusov pointed to the detention of the ex-commander of the 125th territorial defense brigade of the Lviv region, Lieutenant General Artur Gorbenko and Brigadier General Yuriy Galushkin. However, there were no official confirmations of their arrest.
The journalist added that the servicemen are suspected of negligence related to the loss of control of troops in the Kharkiv direction last May, Gazeta.Ru wrote.
On January 17, it was reported that the 155th mechanized brigade "Anna Kievskaya" of the AFU collapsed after deployment. During the training, 50 people deserted from the unit. For the entire period of existence of "Anna Kievskaya" AWOL 1.7 thousand servicemen left the unit.
Before that, on January 15, military observer David Axe reported that after the collapse of the 155th mechanized brigade, the AFU will not form new ones. According to him, the Ukrainian army will focus on strengthening the already existing units.
On January 8, the Ukrainian State Bureau of Investigation detained a company commander of the 155th mechanized brigade of the AFU on suspicion of desertion and inciting subordinates to do so. The senior lieutenant was taken into custody but may be released on bail.
The AFP news agency reported on January 6 that the French Defense Ministry confirmed several dozen cases of desertion of Ukrainian soldiers of the 155th brigade during exercises in Europe. At the same time, AFP specified that the military were allowed to leave the barracks and desertion is not criminalized in France. The next day, the commander of the AFU ground forces, Mikhail Drapatyi, confirmed the cases of unauthorized desertion in the brigade.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
