The Zaporizhzhya Automobile Plant (ZAZ) should resume production of cars after the liberation of the territory of the city of Zaporizhzhya. This was stated by the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Zaporizhzhya region Viktor Emelianenko.

"Melitopol is a city of metallurgists, the elite was, hands of gold. The city produced engines for cars, there was a motor plant. And they closed it because it was unprofitable. They started importing imports. The AvtoZAZ plant in Zaporozhye is standing. It has the latest conveyor, where you can assemble cars - from cars to minibuses. We need to free everything, take it back. And start making Zaporozhets again, although they can be called differently," TASS quoted Emelianenko as saying on January 20.

Zaporozhets cars were produced in 1960-1994. The first model was "ZAZ-965", which was nicknamed "humpback". "ZAZ-968A" was popularly called "eared", and the "ZAZ-968M", which replaced it and lost the "ears" of air intakes, was nicknamed "soapbox". In total, more than 3 million Zaporozhets cars were produced in Zaporozhye.

Since 1998, the ZAZ plant switched to the production of cars in cooperation with foreign manufacturers, and in the late 2000s, among others, VAZ cars were assembled at the plant. In 2018, the bankruptcy of the enterprise was announced.

On January 15, it was announced that AvtoVAZ has planned 15 major product events for 2025, including the launch of all-new models and updates to existing models. The world premiere of a new Lada crossover on the Vesta platform will take place in June 2025 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). AvtoVAZ also plans to launch a new brand under which commercial vehicles will be produced. The production volumes of Lada cars in 2024 at the Togliatti site have become a record for the last 10 years.
