The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have lost more than 53,000 troops since the beginning of military operations in the Kursk region. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 20.

"In total, the enemy has lost more than 53,330 servicemen during the fighting in the Kursk direction," the ministry said.

During the day, the enemy's losses amounted to 460 fighters.

Also, the Russian Armed Forces destroyed four tanks, four infantry fighting vehicles, an armored personnel carrier, nine combat vehicles, 57 vehicles, five artillery pieces, a mortar, an electronic warfare station, an armored recovery vehicle, as well as four drone control points and an ammunition depot.

In addition, the Russian Armed Forces repelled four counterattacks of the Ukrainian army in the Kursk direction.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry published footage of the Russian military liquidating AFU vehicle equipment in the border area of Kursk region. The equipment was detected by military reconnaissance units of the Russian Defense Ministry's Rubicon test center for advanced unmanned technologies. The target was successfully destroyed by FPV drone calculations.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
